"Tink"ing noise inside.. like seat belt warning?

Hi, I've got an 88 740 GLE. Today when I was driving home, occassionally when braking something inside was making a "Tink-a-Tink-a-Tink-a" noise from the dashboard area. I'm pretty certain it's exactly the same sound as the seat belt warning... but the seat belt light was definitely not coming on when I was braking. I tried to recreate the noise with the car sat idling on the driveway, but couldn't do it. Do 740's use this sound as a warning for things other than seat belts? As it only happened when slowing up to islands, I was wondering if it could be low brake pad warning, and possibly the dash warning light for that is broken? Hope not 'cause we're going to Wales in it Friday! Any help appreciated.. quite new to Volvo's - was only meant as a temp car but really growing on me!

Hi, The seat belt warning sound comes from the same relay as the indicator. Try it. Turn the ignition on and get the seat belt warning, then turn on the hazard warning lights and the noise will slow to that of the hazard warning. It may be, therefore something to do with the same circuit. Are the indicators returning as normal? do they flash when you are slowing? Are you indicating when slowing? Des. . . ;)

Wonder if it's an ABS relay/computer freaking out? Regards, Andrew.

Not got ABS on mine I don't think? Well we're in Wales.. no probs but still tinking! Only does it when ur facing downhill slightly.. uphill or flat road is fine! Strange..?!

just a thought, if the sound comes from the same relay as the hazard warning lights, could it be that when braking, the brake light circuit is shorting somehow and energizing the hazard warning circuit through the rear light cluster loom?
