RE: Running on cooking oil

My mates 1991 1.8D fiesta gave 3 bhp over factory when we put it on the rollers when run on cooking oil... Personally I would not risk the potential damage. A fiesta engine is somewhat more silmple than a D5, plus it is illegal :huh_oh:

The D5 is the modern breed of diesel with ultra high pressure injectors. I would seriously not advise it! Old tech diesels, no problemo ;)

RE: Running on cooking oil

All diesels will run on cooking oil. Just buy a big can from Tesco (works out at about 65p/Litre). Or obtain 100% Biodiesel from a supplier and mix it in any proportion from 5% to 100%. I have been running my car on B100 (100% biodiesel from recycled cooking oil) for quite a few 100s of miles now and have no problems with an unmodified engine. You don't need to listen to those who do not really know what they are talking about, just do the research on the web. There are an awful lot of people who learn about the stuff from the web. Remember this fact:- When Rudolf Diesel was demonstrating his diesel at the 1901 Paris exhibition it was designed to run on Peanut oil. In fact he designed all his engines to run on vegetable oils. Also all the big manufacturers of diesel fuels (Shell, Esso, BP, Texaco etc. add 5% biodiesel to their pump fuels to make up for the loss in lubricity by removing the Sulphur from the fuel to produce ULSD). Supermarket forecourts, apart from a very few, do not add biodiesel and have suffered a few claims for new fuel pumps as a consequence. Don't just pooh-pooh what I say check it out for yourselves!! All the best, Peter. :car-smiley-031:

My astra diesel is still waiting in a garage to be MOTd in the summer to take part in the great cooking oil experiment. Should be fun!
