Reaper and video

Basically no video formats or codec work, ive tried avi,that is just a black screen. However mp4 works but it is far from smooth, it constantly stutters and hangs every couple of seconds making impossible to sync audio. My operating system is windows 7 ultimate 64 bit running 32bit reaper 4.22. Does anyone else have these problems, will they be fixed?
